Ornery Owl
Welcome to Ornery Literary Services, where we offer beta reading, editing, proofreading, and reviewing services for tips and links.
You don't have to pay me for my services. However, if you feel that I did a good job, you are more than welcome to leave a tip and/or to provide a link to this page on your blog, social media, on an acknowledgment page in your book, what have you.
Contact me at chartley65@gmail.com if interested. Please put LITERARY SERVICES in all caps in the subject line. You are welcome to address me as either Cie or Ornery, I respond to both.
I am not interested in having my own books reviewed at this time, so please do not send queries to my inbox regarding such services.
If you would like your book on the virtual shelves of the Ornery Book Emporium, please contact The Ornery Old Lady at the above email address. I will require an electronic copy of the book for review purposes and a link to the book's Amazon page or information regarding where readers can obtain a copy.
Regarding reviews, receipt of a book or product is not a guarantee of a positive review. However, it is rare for me to give a scathing review. This happened three times last year, and it was always because the author felt that it was acceptable to use larger people as objects for ridicule. Scapegoating and dehumanizing others does not sit well with me.
I have the right to reject a request for space on my virtual shelves for any reason. I will provide a reason why the request was rejected if it is rejected. As an author myself, I know that rejection blows an entire herd of goats. However, I expect that any responses to my decision, whether positive or negative, will be respectful. Threats, coercion, and ad hominem attacks will result in a permanent ban for the instigator thereof.
Regarding reviews, the thing I hate most is when authors contact me to rail at me about why I should not have given the review that I did or try to convince me that they're right and I'm wrong. Sometimes people I've given excellent reviews to while pointing out a few sticking points have been the biggest offenders. Either take my advice into account or reject it. I said what I said for a reason. If you think that my thoughts don't count because I'm an out-of-touch old lady who just "doesn't get it," fine. I don't have the time or the desire to debate with you.
I actually enjoy giving positive reviews and helping authors. I tend to be pretty easy to work with unless I am disrespected or threatened. If you think I may be able to help you, I look forward to hearing from you.
